Annual Maple Syrup Open House
March 20 & 21 2010 10am - 2pm
It’s maple syrup season! Come witness the age old tradition of turning maple sap into all natural maple syrup using a wood fired evaporator.
It usually takes the Sugar Maple more than 40 years to grow larger than 12 inches in diameter at chest height. Near the end of February, when alternating freezing and thawing temperatures generally begin, sugarmakers make the rounds of their "sugarwoods", drilling small holes into the trunk of the tree.
Depending on the tree's diameter and strength, it may be fitted with as many as three (3) taps. Metal or plastic spouts are inserted, and buckets are hung, or plastic tubing is connected from tree to tree.
Please come out and join us for some maple talk, demonstrations and of course this seasons first bottled batches of all natural maple syrup. If you would like to take a walk into the woods to tap trees please dress accordingly, conditions in the woods this time of year tend to be muddy.
